196' Mega-Yacht — Generator & Bridge Systems

We had an exciting array of winter projects this year including this magnificent personal mega-yacht. This 196-foot Italian beauty needed care on one of its two 260 kVA generators and its horn/warning control panel. We made an on-the-spot repair to the generator to prevent a complete tear-down of one of its main power lines.

The horn warning system controller was a panel replacement that ended up requiring us to make a larger cut in the bridge — all under the watchful eye of the Captain. We were tasked with a few more "while you're here" items along the way, resulting in another happy client.

Maryland Dove

We were contacted by the ship's captain to work on this custom 88' historical reproduction of The Dove. The Maryland Dove design is based on the original 17th-century trading ship that sailed to the Maryland colony with the Ark in 1634. Completed in 2022, it is Historic St. Mary's City's floating ambassador.

During their maiden voyage from St. Mary's City to Annapolis, the foundation discovered they were unable to track the vessel's progress via AIS. After analysis we confirmed the powered antenna switch was wired incorrectly and the AIS GPS antenna was installed where it could not receive signals. Once we corrected the wiring and re-located the GPS antenna, the Maryland Dove was back online.

Summer Wind

We were contacted to work on this 100' 1929 Alden Schooner to fix the starboard engine. After troubleshooting we rebuilt the engine's failed fuel filter housing. Once put back together the vessel was able to resume its travels — an honor to work on this nearly 100-year-old yacht.

1985 Dillon 47' Sailboat — Wiring Overhaul

After years of cruising and upgrading, it was time to roll up our sleeves and clean up and redo a lot of the wiring on this client's 1985 custom Dillon 47' sailboat. The photos below show the before and after of the work.

122' San Lorenzo — Generator Repair

Our client called us to repair one of two failed 70 kW generators on their 122' San Lorenzo, which prevented the vessel from leaving shore power. We troubleshot the issue to a bad SCR, replaced it after partial disassembly of the genset back-end, and restored non-shore power so the client could take the vessel out when desired.

36' Sabre — Lithium Ion Battery System

We installed a high-end lithium ion battery system with a commensurate battery management system. With help from PKYS, we installed two 200Ah lithium ion batteries along with Victron's Multiplus 3000 inverter charger and numerous other components for in-depth control and automated power management.

The system is networked into a 4G hotspot, allowing us to remotely access, inspect, and maintain it. The owner can run the air conditioner for nearly three hours before the system shuts it off to preserve enough power for critical DC systems.

52' Seahorse Trawler — Electronics Upgrade

We upgraded electronics throughout the pilot house and flybridge — new Garmin plotters, AIS transceiver, and VHF repairs. Failing antennas, a mislocated VHF switch, inadequate coax connectors, and a failed radio were corrected. AIS tracked vessels up to 18 miles away with strong transmit and receive on all three radios.

The NMEA 2000 network was expanded for the new Garmin plotters, AIS, and VHF radio. New instrument panels were fabricated and installed to make both helm stations like new.

Yanmar 3GM30 — Engine Restoration

The owner contacted us to go over his engine on a new-to-him boat. Significant corrosion prevented basic servicing — fuel hard-lines were seized to the injectors, injectors seized in the head, and heat exchanger end-cap bolts had to be cut off and replaced.

Fuel supply lines and an engine mount were replaced, numerous parts were cleaned of corrosion, and the engine was re-painted with factory paint and run tested. The owner now has a good-as-new engine.

Peninsulator 400 — "The Beast"

Inspection revealed bent push-rods, broken injector tips, and a seizing turbo on this Albin 28. The turbo, starter, and all injectors were rebuilt with extensive cleaning and de-greasing of the marine oil pan. Rebuild complete and the client is off and running.

Annapolis City Fire Boat

The Annapolis City Fire Department awarded us the job to pull all wiring from the mast and remove the mast and all electronics in preparation to ship their fire boat out for a complete refurbishment.
